The Department of Science & Technology here in Negros Oriental recently installed SuperSTARBOOKS, the latest version of the Science & Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKs), in six computers located in different institutions.
Negros Oriental State University Bais, NORSU Bais II, NORSU Bayawan-Sta. Catalina, NORSU Guihulngan, Negros College Inc. in Ayungon, and Zamboanguita Science High School were the new beneficiaries of DOST’s technology.
Prior to the turnover, DOST NegOr conducted orientation seminar and training on the operation of the SuperSTARBOOKS which was attended by focal persons of beneficiary institutions.
The country’s first digital library, also dubbed as “library in a box”, contains thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats designed as a standalone. The resources can be accessed offline, making it ideal for schools and institutions in far-flung areas that have no access to Internet.
It also has livelihood videos to encourage entrepreneurial activities in the countryside.
DOST Negros Oriental Provincial Director Atty. Gilbert Arbon thanked the institutions for adopting STARBOOKS as their supplementary source of reliable materials and references. In return, the beneficiaries vowed to maximize their use.
According to NegOr PSTC data, there are now 15 STARBOOKS units in the Province, including in Bayawan National High School, NORSU Mabinay, NORSU Siaton, Dumaguete City Public Library, Holy Cross High School, Catherina Cittadini-St. Louis School, NORSU Main, Silliman University, and St. Paul University Dumaguete.
STARBOOKS is an educational innovation that is in keeping with STII’s aim of providing the public with relevant and timely S&T information. Installation is free. Interested institutions can visit DOST Negros Oriental PSTC or contact [email protected] (Reinhold Jek Abing)
