A scholar of the Department of Science & Technology topped the March 2023 board exam for teachers.

Alvord Van Patten Valencia ranked sixth in the recently- concluded Licensure Exam for Teachers, obtaining a rating of 91.80 percent.

Valencia finished his Bachelor in Secondary Education– Science at the Negros Oriental State University as a DOST-SEI Undergraduate scholar for four academic years.

He advised his fellow DOST scholars: “Don’t pressure yourself [just] because the world is pressuring you [to succeed]. Just ride the tide, pray, and work in silence.” He added that during his college years, he lived by a motto: “Work in silence and let your success do the noise for you.”

He also told scholars to rest when tired. “Listen to your body, and take good care of it. Find the right circle [of friends]. Review buddies are a big help. They make worrisome days lighter.”

Valencia also expressed gratitude to DOST for the generous stipend and allowances throughout his college years. (Reinhold Jek Abing/DOST NegOr)
