The Department of Science & Technology—Science Education Institute has opened the online application for its 2022 Undergraduate Scholarships program.
Interested Grade 12 students in the Province will need to access the E-Scholarship Application System at https://usas.science-scholarships.ph
The graduating Grade 12 students need a valid and secure email address, a working cellphone number, and stable internet connection before accessing the site.
The applicants must have Form 137 or Form 138 from Grades 9, 10 and 11; be a natural-born Filipino citizen, of good character, and in good health. They must not have been enrolled in college, or must not have earned any post-secondary academic units.
The undergraduate scholarships are open to all Grade 12 students regardless of socio-economic status. For students with high aptitude in science and mathematics who belong to families whose socio-economic status exceeds the set values of certain indicators, the student may apply for the Merit Scholarship.
On the other hand, RA 7687 is specifically meant for the poor, talented, and deserving students who belong to families whose socio-economic status do not exceed the set values of certain indicators.
Successful applicants will study any priority science and technology course. Those who will enroll in any state university or college will still have to take the mandatory entrance examination.
For those who will study in any DOST-accredited private university or college, DOST will pay P20,000/semester as tuition subsidy. Among other benefits are monthly stipend of P7,000 for 10 months per school year, book allowance of P5,000/semester, thesis allowance of an outright grant of P10,000, transportation allowance for scholars who will study outside the Province, a one-time clothing allowance for the first year in college, and a graduation allowance.
Last year, some 1,418 applicants from Negros Oriental competed for the 2021 DOST Undergraduate Scholarships; 77 qualified as scholars.
