For the first time, a meeting of the Negros Oriental Provincial Solid Waste Management Board included in its agenda a discussion on the switch to clean technologies.
This was in response to a suggestion made by Department of Science & Technology-Negros Oriental head Engr. Gilbert Arbon to the Environment & Natural Resources Division of the Province.
Dr. Lorelle Baracol, Business Development head under the Technological Services Division of the DOST- Industrial Technology Development Institute, discussed some solid waste management-related technologies, such as the Stirred-Tank Bioreactor Composter, Portable Biogas Digester, and Fruit Waste-Derived Bacterial Cellulose as Bio-based Plastic Film.
Another resource speaker was Johnemma Chuayana from the Environment & Biotechnology Division, who talked about the Institute’s Waste Analysis & Characterization Study (WACS).
