The modernization of the Dumaguete airport, along with 10 other airports across the country, is among several “big ticket” transport projects that would “shake the status quo” in the transport sector.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said Wednesday that the airports of Bukidnon, Catbalogan, Dumaguete, Tacloban, Kalibo, Caticlan, Laguindingan, Siargao, Zamboanga, Masbate and Cotabato, along with the privatization of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, is eexpected to peovide a better travel experience for customers.
Speaking during the Stratbase ADR Institute Pilipinas Conference, Bautista said the DOTt is also seeking the private sector’s support due to the agency’s limited fiscal space, to play a pivotal role in speeding up the completion of vital transport infrastructure projects.
“We need the cooperation of various stakeholders, including foreign and local business groups who have expressed keen interest in our highly investible transport projects,” he said.
“Our transport projects highlight the efforts of our government in pushing the infrastructure agenda of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to expand its pipeline of flagship projects that will transform the transport landscape, while improving mobility and connectivity,” he said.
The ongoing construction of the North-South Commuter Railway, the Metro Manila Subway and the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 is also poised to improve mobility and connectivity.
Road transport is also given priority with the modernization of public utility vehicles, the EDSA Busway, the establishment of bicycle lanes nationwide and the EDSA Greenways project. (PNA)
