Dumaguete City is ready for the 2018 edition of the Dumaguete Dragon Boat Challenge.
Paddlers from Manila, Cebu, Bohol, Tacloban, and Hong Kong will join the local dragon boat teams for the annual dragon boat race on April 6-7 at the Rizal Boulevard.
The City Tourism Office and the City Sports Development Office take their lead from the Department of Tourism’s positioning of the Philippines as a top sports tourism destination in the world, banking on the various attractions in the country, and the passion of Filipinos for sports.
This was reinforced by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo’s thrust promoting Dumaguete as a sports-tourism venue.
“Dragonboat, and other beach/water sports, is ideal for Dumaguete as we are a coastal city. The event showcases the century-old, acacia-lined Rizal Boulevard,” said City Tourism Officer Jackie Antonio.
Event categories are: Standard Boat Open 200 meters, 300 meters, Mixed 300 meters. Short Boat (using long boat) Open 200 meters and 300 meters, Mixed 300 meters, and Women 300 meters.
Supporting this year’s race are tourism partners Philippine Airlines, Globe Telecom, Chowking, Pau D’ Arco, Manjuyod LGU, Bais LGU, the Dumaguete Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the DOT Region 7.
The race will be officiated by the Philippine Canoe Kayak Federation. (Dumaguete PIO)
