Dramatic rescue off Dumaguete seas

January 3, 2013 (9:15 a.m.)- Rescuers are struggling to keep the MV Zamboanga ferry, with close to 200 passengers on board, afloat after it run aground some 50 meters off the Rizal Boulevard amid strong waves by the low pressure area. Rescuers trying to pull boat to deeper water so it could restart engine but two of its 3-inch ropes were cut by the force of the wind on the ship.

Passengers, many of whom are students coming back to this university city from Zamboanga for their Christmas break, are seen wearing life vests. The boat was scheduled to dock at 840 am.
