FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA — Thank you ever so much to your columnist Michael Cassidy for posting Rules of the Road (Letter to the Editor, Oct. 13).
I have noticed that most drivers in Negros Oriental, if not all, are not educated, and have not been educated in the most defensive, safe, and stress-saving manner of driving to prevent unnecessary accidents.
Drivers of all kinds of vehicles like bicycles, motorcycles, pedicabs, cars of all makes and models, pick-up trucks, small and giant de-cargas SHOULD and MUST TAKE and PASS DRIVER EDUCATION/RULES OF THE ROAD TESTS.
After successfully passing the test for driver education, the successful candidate must take and PASS the LICENSE EXAMINATION for drivers.
I come to the Philippines, particularly in Dumaguete City, each year for three to four months at a time. I dread driving my car going to the City where all kinds of vehicles are going here, there, and everywhere, without giving a SIGNAL where he/ she is turning.

There are NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS NOR STOP SIGNS. There are one-way streets with signs not-too-visible, or not posted at all. It is sickening!
What is the local government doing to ensure that no serious catastrophe of any kind will endanger or kill drivers, or pedestrians walking on the road, who do not know the correct and legal way of maneuvering all kinds of vehicles?
Will the LGUs wait until a serious catastrophe happens? Now is the time to do something to prevent suffering and possible loss of lives.
Again, with grateful heart, I am very pleased that your columnist had posted what would make the citizens of Dumaguete and of the nearby areas become aware of the dangers, and how the danger of pain and suffering, and possibly death, could be prevented.
All for the glory of GOD.
