The Department of Trade & Industry conducted training sessions of the Small & Medium Enterprise Roving Academy for more than a hundred Persons with Disability, and small & medium enterprises from Thursday until Saturday this weekend at the Negros Oriental Convention Center and at DTI.
“We aimed to train PWDs to give them opportunities to go into handicraft and other entrepreneurial businesses,” said Olivet Somido, senior Trade & Industry Development specialist.
The seminar taught PWDs the skills necessary to start a business. For instance, the thrust on Entrepreneurial Development included the preparation of a basic business plan and product pricing.
The PWDs were also trained on Flower & Balloon Arrangement.
Meanwhile, the SMEs were taught handicraft skills for Christmas Novelty Items & Decorative Box Making.
The series of trainings are part of SMERA’s seven-stage program, where proprietors of small business ventures are able to access a range of assistance and services from government.
The SMERA training workshops, in partnership with the Department of Social Work & Development, were facilitated by the Manila-based Philippine Trade Training Center of the DTI. (Royanni Miel Hontucan/SU Masscom intern)
