Runners continue to register online for the Dumaguete Adventure “Rice is Life” Marathon (DAM) to be held on November 18.
The DAM is organized yearly by Foundation University.
As of Thursday, a total of 117 runners have registered online. Many of the online registrants listed addresses from Cebu, Bacolod, Tagbilaran, Iloilo, Dipolog, General Santos, Metro Manila and there was a lone entry from New York City.
The number of runners is expected to increase as the deadline draws near but Dr. Aparicio Mequi, who founded the DAM four years ago, reminded runners to register early to avail of discounts.
Runners who register before October 15 will only pay P700 for the 42k full marathon, P600 for the 21k half marathon, P500 for the 10.5k quarter marathon, P300 for the 5k finisher’s run and P200 for the 3k kiddies’ run.
The rate will increase by P100 for all categories by October 16. Online registration is open until November 10.
The Dumaguete Adventure Marathon 2012 is backed by Sun Cellular with Cebu Pacific and Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) as the major sponsors. The DAM has also been chosen by the PhilRice as the launching activity for the Visayas of the National Year of Rice 2013.
Other sponsors are Robinson’s Place Dumaguete, URC Foods Corporation and Tierra Alta and Selrahco Management and Consultancy Services.
The activity is also supported by the Province of Negros Oriental, the City of Dumaguete, the municipalities of Valencia and Sibulan, One Rescue and SG Bank.
The DAM is the only running marathon in the Philippines and possibly the world that has an advocacy of rice conservation. Runners recite a rice conservation pledge prior to the race and this is also the only marathon that gives rice for prizes.
