The City Government of Dumaguete has been awarded as one of the Top 10 New Wave Cities for outsourcing locations in the Philippines.
The recognition was given by the Information & Communications Technology Office and the Information Technology & Business Process Association of the Philippines for being one of the Top 10 Next Wave Cities for the year 2012.
Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, received the plaque of recognition for Dumaguete City for ranking 10th during the awarding ceremony on May 20 at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.
Louis Napoleon Casambre, executive director of the Department of Science & Technology-ICTO, and Jose Mari Mercado, president of IT-BPAP, signed the plaque of recognition.
The recognition is a testament to the hardwork, determination, and spirit of cooperation among its stewards and leaders to develop their jurisdiction as an environment conducive to well-managed business growth and ICT development in Dumaguete City.
Also in the top 10 cities list are Baguio, Davao, Iloilo, Lipa, Metro Bulacan (composed of Baliuag, Calumpit, Malolos, Marilao, and Meycauayan), Metro Cavite (Bacoor, Dasmarinas, Cavite, Imus) Metro Laguna (Cabuyao, Calamba, Los Banos, Sta. Rosa, San Pablo), Metro Naga (Naga City, and Pili), and Metro Rizal (Antipolo, Binangonan, Cainta, Taytay).
“These are areas which we believe can spur development of innovation and provide options for expansion for companies,” said ICTO deputy executive director Monchito B. Ibrahim.
The Top 10 next wave cities are announced yearly to highlight areas which can host new business process outsourcing investors.
The ICTO of the DOST was created through Executive Order 47 which transferred the former Commission on Information & Communications Technology from the Office of the President to the DOST. (PR)
