Host team Dumaguete City landed third out of twenty-eight participating teams in last week’s Regional Qualifying round of Batang Pinoy.
City Sports Consultant Joe Guirit, in an interview, said the host team collected 27 gold medals, 18 silvers and 27 bronzes.
The host team put up a fight in swimming with 10 golds, wrestling with eight gold medals, archery with six golds, and obtained one medal in the basketball showdown, Guirit said.
Champion team Cebu City dominated the badminton, table tennis, judo, taekwondo, chess and swimming competitions with 52 gold medals, 37 silvers, and 31 bronze medals.
Bacolod City landed in 2nd place with 34 gold medals, 18 silvers and 23 bronzes.
Fourth place went to Leyte with 11 golds, 16 silvers, and eight bronzes.
The other teams with their standings were Antique, 5th place, Bohol, 6th; Maasin City, 7th; Bayawan City, 9th; Talisay Cebu, 10th.
Guirit lauded the Dumaguete team for placing third despite the limited resources and late preparation.
The winners a chance to become a member of the national pool which will be trained to compete in the second Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China in 2014. (City PIO)
