The Dumaguete City government, through the city’s Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), has lined up a series of activities in observance of this year’s Environment Month.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day Celebrations is Think.Eat.Save.

Think.Eat.Save. is an anti-food waste and -food loss campaign that encourages the community to reduce foodprint and be more aware of the environmental impact of the food choices we make, according to Armand Adanza of ENRO.

He said the observance of Environment Month this June opened with a tree-planting of at least 150 tree seedlings and 50 bamboo seedlings along a dry creek in Cantil-e, participated by Cantil-e Elementary School, the military and the police, and members of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Other activities are an environmental compliance seminar, DENR Day on June 10, Kapihan sa PIAon June 14, Civic Action Day on June 15, which will be a city-wide cleanup in all barangays, schools, businesses, and government offices. On June 22 is Arbor Day (Arbor in Latin means “tree”); on June 27 is an oratorical contest and poster making contest; and on June 30 will be a Fun Run and tree-planting activity in barangay Camanjac.
