DUMAGUETE CITY–The City Board of Canvassers of Dumaguete today proclaimed Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria as the re-elected mayor and Woodrow Maquiling Sr. as the next vice mayor of the City.
The proclamation was held at the City Council Session Hall.
Based on election returns from 92 clustered precincts as of 7:34 Tuesday morning, Sagarbarria obtained 35,285 votes against challenger Allan Cordova’s 19,745 votes.
However, the City Board of Canvassers could not proclaim the winners for the City Council until after a new Compact Flash card arrives from Comelec Manila so that the counting of the ballots can resume. The canvassing of votes in both the City and the Province ground to a halt in the absence of CF cards which are being used by the PCOS machines.
Atty. Juvenal Tuale, OIC Provincial Election Supervisor, said that there are seven towns and cities which reported having busted CF cards, Dumaguete among them.
Tuale could not immediately give the names of the other local government units but he named Guihulngan and Bayawan cities, including the municipality of Basay, among the seven.
Tuale said he estimates that the earliest proclamation by the Provincial Board of Canvassers could be held by Wednesday.
