Dumaguete City has landed in 2nd place among all component cities in the Philippines in terms of Government Efficiency for 2018.

This is an annual poll conducted by the Department of Trade & Industry that gauges if cities and municipalities have the elements necessary for business to flourish.

The DTI undertakes the survey with the National Competitiveness Council with the results published annually as the Cities & Municipalities Competitiveness Index.

First place in the component city category went to Legazpi in Albay.

This year’s competitiveness index monitored and evaluated 1,508 local government units. It measured the economic dynamism of the LGU insofar as fostering activities that help expand businesses and industries that create jobs.

The poll also considered the reliability of government services and support for effective and sustainable productive expansion.

It also checked the infrastructure or the physical building blocks of a locality that enable the provision of goods and services.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo accepted the award during DTI’s 6th Regional Competitiveness Summit Cities & Municipalities Competitiveness Index held Thursday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila. With the Mayor were Councilors Alan Gel Cordova, Michael Bandal, and Joe Kenneth Arbas.
