Bishop Julito Cortes of the Diocese of Dumaguete will officially open the Holy Door of Mercy at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete City on Sunday. This is in line with the Catholic Church’s celebration of the Year of Mercy.

The activity will reel off with a gathering at 5 p.m. At the Mary Immaculate Church, to the followed at 5:15 p.m. with an Opening Liturgy followed by procession to the Cathedral. At 5:30 p.m. will be the opening of the Door of Mercy to be followed by a Holy Mass. Earlier, Bishop Cortes sealed the Door of Mercy at the Cathedral during the Solemnity of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception Tuesday. During his homily at Tuesday’s mass, he gave the ABC’s God for mercy, which He gives abundantly. But, Bishop Cortes also stressed that not only do we ask for mercy but we should be merciful as well. He said we must show mercy to the poor, the needy and the marginalized. Finally, we must create structures of mercy, following the example of the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Pope Francis, who also earlier opened the Jubilee Year of Mercy, emphasized that “mercy can help build a human world”. (PNA/JFP)
