Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria formally received Friday 100 complete sets of computers that were donated to the Dumaguete City government from its sister city, Yeongdun-gun in South Korea.
The computers had arrived about two or three months earlier in Cebu but it took awhile to have the donation delivered to Dumaguete City due to stringent requirements and paper work, said Mayor Sagarbarria.
According to him, the Bureau of Customs asked some P525,000 pesos in all for taxes and other fees.
The Yeongdun-gun city government, however, shouldered part of the taxes amounting to P235,000.
Mayor Sagarbarria said they will give the said amount when they arrive here Saturday, in time for the celebration of the city’s 62nd charter day anniversary festivities.
The mayor expressed delight over the shipment, saying this is just one of the benefits the city government of Dumaguete has gained from entering into a sister city-hood with Yeongdong-gun.
The recipients of the computer sets, meanwhile, will be determined later by the city government, said the mayor.
These would most likely include city government offices, barangays, schools and even the city police.
Mayor Sagarbarria, along with some city councilors and city officials, received the computer sets that were transported in a container van at the City Hall grounds Friday morning. (PNA)
