Six Dumaguete students have been chosen as finalists for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines Region VII.
Rolando Villamero Jr., regional representative of the TOSP VII, said the six Dumaguete students are Regina Clarina Elmaco of St. Paul University for Humanities & Teacher Education; Mark Anthony Amparado, L. Athena Gene Duran of Silliman University, and Joshua Eleazar Domen of St. Paul University for IT, Math & Sciences; Felix Mosqueda III of Negros Oreintal State University and Angelica Dwayne Young Ricardo of St. Paul University for the Medicine & Health-Related category.
Villamero said the six Dumaguete finalists, along with 14 other students from Cebu and Bohol, were selected in a rigorous screening process done in Cebu City.
The 20 finalists from the Visayas will represent their respective institutions during the TOSP Region VII Formation Week on April 28 to May 2 in Dumaguete City.
Two Dumaguetenos were on the panel of judges: Prof. Gina Fontejon Bonoir of Silliman University, and Sibulan Councilor Indira Iris Requiron, president of the Dumaguete Press & Radio Club.
Villamero said the TOSP Region VII is an annual search which recognizes the best and the brightest students in the provinces of Region VII who have excelled in academics, leadership, and social responsibility. The program aims at establishing role models who will galvanize our young people into action and help bring about total human and economic development in the nation.
The TOSP program dates back to 1961 when businessman Jose Concepcion Jr., then publisher of Student Life Magazine, envisioned an annual recognition of outstanding students. The vision was actualized on June 19, 1961 when TOSP was launched aptly on the 100th birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal.
This year’s Search is a commitment of RFM Foundation, the TOSP-Alumni Community, and Commission on Higher Education. in partnership with the provincial government of Negros Oriental.
