Joint police operatives from different units arrested a Dutch national Tuesday morning in Bais City and confiscated several firearms and ammunition.

A report from the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office identified the suspect as Carolus Andrianus Henricus de Leeuw, 54, and residing in Bais City.

During a search at his rented house at the boundary of Barangays Okiot and Capiñahan around 9:40 a.m. to 12:47 p.m., the police operatives confiscated one unit Norinco .45-caliber pistol; one unit Taurus caliber .380 pistol; two standard magazines for caliber .45 pistol fully loaded with live ammunition; a magazine for caliber .380 pistol; and more than 200 rounds of ammunition of various caliber.

Also confiscated were four expired firearms license cards under the name of Amelia Lourdes U. Mendoza; two expired Permits to Carry Firearm Outside of Residence also under the name of the same woman; and one black plastic firearms case.

Col. Julian Entoma, provincial police director, said that they are still determining the relationship between the woman and the Dutch national.

The foreigner was arrested by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Rosario Carriaga of the Regional Trial Court in Bais City, for violation of Republic Act 10591, the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act”.

He is now detained pending the filing of proper charges against him. (Judy F. Partlow/PNA)
