Greyhounds 101, Foundation University’s very own radio station will soon be airing something else besides music and news. And it won’t be just for students, either.
Starting October 5, listeners at frequency 101.3 on the FM band will hear a School-on- the-air program from 5-6 a.m.
This program will be handled by the FU College of Agriculture, the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture for Rural Development (NISARD) Foundation and the Agricultural Training Institute of the Department of Agriculture.
Two farmcasters will be regular school hosts–Jun Oliver, who works as an extension officer of the Department of Agriculture and Merlissa Garcia, a NISARD technician who also teaches agriculture at FU.
Dean Mark Espedilla of the FU College of Agriculture said the month-long program will consist of lectures on various agricultural topics. The course is designed for some 300 farmers within the coverage area of DYFU-FM in Bacong, Valencia and Sibulan towns.
They agreed to listen to the program and they specified the time that would be ideal for them, Espedilla said.
The farmers will also be asked questions and they would send their answers through text messages. Their answers would be recorded.
“As an incentive for answering the questions, they may receive freebies such as farm implements or fertilizers, courtesy of the program sponsors,” Espedilla said.
After the month- long course, the farmers will receive a certificate from Foundation University, the NISARD and the Agricultural Training Institute.
Espedilla said they hope to make the School-On-The-Air program a sustaining activity.
The School-On-The-Air will be launched on October 5 at Foundation University.
