EDC distributes school supplies to Valencia kids

Geothermal leader Energy Development Corp. has begun distributing school supplies to over 4,000 elementary students from 20 elementary schools in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

June 2015 is school supplies distribution month for EDC’s Southern Negros Geothermal Project, a media release from EDC on Wednesday said.

The company’s Community Partnerships Team and its employee volunteers have finished giving out school supplies to students in Nasuji, Puhagan, Malaunay, Caidiocan, Pulangbato, Balili, Dungga, Malabo, Palinpinon, Badiang, and Sagbang elementray schools.

They will also go to Inas, Dobdob, Calinawan, Balugo, Liptong, Bong-Bong, Valencia, Vincente Villa M., and Bong-ao elementary schools this month to provide the school materials of kindergarten to grade 6 pupils in its host communities.

Each student will receive envelopes containing writing instruments, notebooks, and pad papers appropriate for their grade level, the media release said.

“This annual activity is a part of our Community Partnerships Program that aims to uplift the lives of the residents in our host communities,” said Norreen Bautista, EDC’s Community, External Relations & Watershed Management team in Negros Island.

“To achieve this, we implement holistic and sustainable health, education, livelihood, and environment (HELEn) projects.”

EDC has been providing clean, renewable geothermal power to Negros Oriental for almost 40 years now. All these years, education has been at the heart of its corporate responsibility.

It is a strong and stable foundation that helps its host communities break out from the cycle of poverty.

EDC’s full spectrum of educational projects range from school supplies and miscellaneous fees distribution to thousands of elementary students to high school scholarships and college review and readiness programs to on-the-job training, and technical-vocational education.
