The Energy Development Corporation is eyeing to generate an additional 40-45 MW of power from Nasulo in Valencia with the transfer of the 40-megawatt geothermal facility from Negros Occidental to Negros Oriental.

Martha Francesca de Lusong, EDC assistant vice president for business development, told reporters in Manila that eight foreign construction firms will participate in the bidding for the contract to transfer the 40-megawatt geothermal facility from Negros Occidental to Negros Oriental.

The decision to transfer the Northern Negros power plant in Negros Occidental to Nasulo in the town of Valencia, Negros Oriental, was made to avoid incurring more losses as a result of insufficient steam. De Lusong said.

The Northern Negros facility could only generate between 5MW to 10MW, which was far short of the projected 49 MW output.

With the transfer of the Northern Negros facility to Negros Oriental, EDC hopes to run the Northern Negros facility from the new site starting in 2014, she said. (PR)
