Energy Development Corporation (EDC) will spearhead Monday the ceremonial planting of the one-millionth seedling to mark the 1st year anniversary of the 10M in 10 forest restoration project.
The 10M in 10 was launched last year, with partners from government such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the private sector, civil society organizations, schools/academe, local government units and the media, among others, in what is dubbed as “the largest forest restoration movement in Negros Island”.
The project aims to plant, grow and protect one million seedlings a year over a period of ten years or a total of 10 million trees to grow back the forests of Negros Island.
The first year anniversary will open with a program on Monday starting at 8 a.m. at the Audio-Visual Theater of Silliman University in Dumaguete City.
Recognition will be given to the different 10M in 10 partners.
Jay Soriano, EDC Business Unit Head for Negros, will lead the ceremonial planting of the one-millionth seedling at a designated spot outside the Audio-Visual Theater, said France Ariola of EDC’s Corporate Communications.
No details were available yet as to the species of the tree to be planted, she added. (PNA/JFP)
