In today’s modern technological era, a myriad of educational tools and learning methodologies are readily accessible in the worldwide web. These include application softwares, digital learning and collaborative approaches that aim to enhance teaching productivity and engage students in the 21st century classroom.
As an information & communications technology teacher, I searched for an online tool that offers a one- stop-shop interface for my teaching needs, without creating separate accounts.
Three years ago, Edmodo was introduced by my colleague while attending an Intel® Teach training. Since then, Edmodo has been implemented throughout my classes and during my ICT-related training nationwide. My amazing experiences with the technology are categorized as follows:
Education. Along with the digital era is the paradigm shift in education from traditional to student-centered. Edmodo allows students to actively participate in online discussions and express their views on a given topic. Teachers should constantly innovate and never stop learning. Edmodo offers several ways to improve teacher’s knowledge by joining communities, providing latest educational issues through articles and webinars. I further understand Project-Based Learning through interaction and online resources shared in PBL community.
Delivery. Edmodo promotes paperless assessment, and can help save the environment by getting rid of printed papers. Teachers can administer quizzes, gather students’ opinions through poll surveys, post announcements and assignments.
Methodology. A hybrid teaching includes face-to-face and online approaches. Badges are awarded to students based on their achievement. In my case, I worked very hard to earn 11 teacher badges from Edmodo based on the criteria, including two special badges for being the first Edmodo teacher registered in Foundation University, and as subdomain administrator of the FU community.
Online. Classes in Edmodo are accessible on the web anytime of the day, using any mobile devices with internet connectivity. In the absence of a teacher, assignments and exercises can easily be posted in the group.
Digital. This tool allows teachers to upload/share files in the digital library. Students can submit assignments and upload files to turn in their outputs (document, workbook, presentation etc.). Teachers can also download the grade book for each class with the corresponding scores in quizzes and assignment.
O ……. What does “O” mean to you? Why don’t you try Edmodo and share your thoughts to us?
