The spirit of EDSA lives on.
A volunteer’s assembly forum sponsored by the EDSA People Power Commission was conducted at the Silliman Hall to continue the EDSA spirit and to inspire fellowship in the province of Negros Oriental last Tuesday.
The forum titled EDSA 26: People Power Salubungan Volunteer’s Forum is part of EPPC’s EDSA: People Power Salubungan Days comprising of different activities nationwide.
Facilitators of the forum include Conrado de Quiros, EPPC Commissioner Ogie Alcasid, EPPC commissioner Cesar Sarino, EPPC commissioner Milagros Kilayko, and Emily Abrera.
The forum was held not only to commemorate the historical event that happened during the 1986 EDSA revolution but to “espouse volunteerism the People Power way, wherein men and women and children from different sectors will come together to work toward the common goal of rebuilding the nation.”
They discussed People Power: Yesterday and Today; Anong Taya mo para sa Pilipinas Natin?; Celebrating People Power Everyday and Everywhere; and Keeping People Power Alive in your Province.
The forum was participated by various non-sectoral and non-government and student organizations, as well as members of the Sangguniang Kabataan.
During the forum, de Quiros, as one of the facilitators, suggested ways on how people can explore and develop the EDSA spirit.
He said that this forum is one way to get the people in the provinces involved and to encourage local volunteers to institutionalize EPPC provincial level council.
Commissioner Alcasid discussed how individual and group efforts can contribute to change for the nation through different individual and group efforts.
The EPPC also organized Volunteer’s Assemblies, Read Alongs, Brigada Eskwela and programs for the environment. They also sought to encourage the youth to develop their talents through sing-and-dance workshops and concerts.
Another EPPC commissioner, Cesar Sarino, shared the values and learning they acquired during the EDSA revolution which he wanted the youth of today to understand and propagate as the substance of a modern day People Power.
