Of the various things that educators have rendered for the greater good of their students, it is only fitting to give them a tribute even for just a day.

With the efforts of the Department of Education Division of Negros Oriental led by Supt. Salustiano Jimenez, teachers from various districts all over the Province convened Oct. 5 at Robinson’s Mall for a one-day celebration of the World Teachers’ Day.

Aimed at bridging technological divide and helping transform Philippine educational system through technological education, DCP continues to provide elementary schools throughout Negros Oriental with laptops and packages that help improve their approach to teaching as it benchmarks with the advent of the computer age.

During its ceremonial turn-over, 37 elementary schools for batch 16, and 84 schools for batch 24 received recognition, laptops and DCP Packages. Schools Governance & Operations division chief Adolf Aguilar graced the activity.

A live band, Willfreedo, entertained the teachers and superintendents with relaxing music and familiar OPM songs.

For World Teachers’ Day, the teachers wore the hat of extraordinary candidates: a male and female teacher represented their respective District, highlighting the importance of being physically fit.

As part of the theme, the teacher-contestants were made to wear the costume of the superhero that best depicts them: showing ingenuity and candor in their profession. Twenty one pairs from the different schools and Districts flaunted colorful costumes and “in-character” poses which were unique and hilarious at times.

The representatives from Sta. Catalina South and from Ayungon Districts won the contest, with a trophy and sash, cash prize, and free hotel accommodation for two with body massage.

The teachers also stole the spotlight as they showed several talent presentations. Twenty one groups of presenters tried their shot at winning the grand prize. Talents ranged from stand-up comedy to singing, dancing.

Divas of Mabinay I District proved they had the edge over the others, receiving a trophy fit for champions.

Personnel from the Professional Regulation Commission was also present to attend to the needs of the teachers. The teachers also enjoyed free medical/dental services, as well as financial services. Raffle draws were also held in-between programs. A variety of door prizes(household necessities, sacks of rice, appliances, and gadgets) were given away.

Dr. Victor Yntig, regional PESS coordinator from Cebu, congratulated the Division of Negros Oriental for celebrating a successful WTD.

In his final message, Division Supt. Jimenez echoed Confucius: “If you think in terms of a year, plant a seed; if in terms of 10 years, plant trees; if in terms of 100 years, teach the people.” He also praised the teachers for their unselfish acts.

World Teachers’ Day in Negros Oriental was coordinated by Adolf Aguilar, Education Program supervisor. (PR)
