The fiscal year ending December 31, 2017 was an excellent one for DCCCO recording several years of consecutive growth. The success is due to the sustained trust of its member-owners and the consistent effort of its management and personnel. DCCCO can therefore be held as a prime example of dedicated, empowered, and compassionate service done in synergy.
As a cooperative, DCCCO has again progressed on several points — membership, revenue collection, earnings from investment, total assets, and installation of additional satellite offices.
Concomitant to being trumpeted as 2017’s Outstanding Cooperative in Region 7 (large category), its membership grew from 85,321 in 2016 to 94,767 in 2017. Its revenue collection also rose to P412.6 million in 2017 from P364.2 million in 2016. With this increase in collection, the cooperative’s total assets correspondingly grew to P3.9 billion from 3.4 billion in 2016. Its earnings in investment likewise increased from P13.81 million in 2016 to P17.97 million in 2017. Its Undivided Net Surplus for the year is P127.13 million.
Despite economic hardships brought about by the many natural calamities that beleaguered its members, delinquency rate decreased from 19.23% to 17.47%. And while many challenges confronted the cooperative, these did not stop DCCCO from erecting and inaugurating additional satellite offices such as the one located at the Central Arcade in Dumaguete City, another one in the City of Tanjay and also a new one in the town of Valencia, Negros Oriental.
As an advocate to the protection of the environment, its extension services have consistently provided benefits to the people. It has persistently maintained its 1,795sqm ecological farm, its tree planting/growing activities, and coastal clean-up efforts amounting to P104,641.42 which involved 253 members. Its Pantawid Partnership with DSWD benefited 4,303 trained beneficiaries of 4Ps (3,268 only in 2016) who were able to save their money with DCCCO in the total amount of P12.9 million (P9.9M only in 2016).
Its health-related extension programs were also a success. DCCCO was able to extend medical assistance to people amounting to P466,900, medical missions which expended P582,240.35, dental assistance reached P649,572, and granted a total amount of HEAL claims amounting to P1,173,222.94 which benefited 4,547 members.
One of its innovative programs which have continued to reap success through the years is the Aflatoun Program which engaged 5,219 elementary and high school students (from 3,685 in 2016) who now have total savings deposits amounting to P2.3 million, a huge increase from only P1.0 million in 2016. This number of engaged children covered 57 schools, a significant increase since there were only 39 schools involved in 2016.
Nine hundred seventy-one malnourished school children were benefited from its Feeding program with total spending of P272,304.08. Burial assistance reached up to P1.7million extended to 350 families. For calamity victims (fire, flood, etc.) P128,000 has been compassionately extended as financial assistance to 37 victims.
Despite the extremely competitive environment in which we do business, DCCCO’s enviable and highly perceptible successes show how the cooperative business model can be applied and lead to exceptional performance. The cooperative took full advantage of its robust membership and as our earnings illustrate, DCCCO was able to draw not only the synergy of all the cooperative’s components that continuously strive to develop better focused products and services, but also on the accessibility of these services, expert financial consultants, and the great attentiveness of its personnel.
As BOD Chairperson, I am confident that inspired by its successes and guided by the principles of sound and prudent management, DCCCO management and personnel will continue to provide their skills, sense of professionalism and energy toward making this cooperative an institution that promotes the growth of its members’ assets in addition to providing increasingly high quality and accessible services for generations to come.
On behalf of all the members of the Board of Directors, I would like to take the opportunity of this annual report to thank all elected officers, all members and office personnel for their consistent availability and participation in numerous meetings, consultations, assemblies, and in all DCCCO activities.
To God be the Glory!
