A 4th-year civil engineering student, Lexandria Bliss dela Cerna, bested nine other candidates to win year’s Miss Dumaguete crown.

Aside from winning the major award, dela Cerna, 19, also ran away with seven minor awards: Best in Talent, Most Photogenic, Best in Evening Gown, Best in Swimwear, Best Speaker and Best in Production Number.

First runner-up is Elisse Anne Dolleton, 22 years old, of Piapi; 2ndrunner up is Vanessa Kimberly Ganser, 20 years old from Talay, 3rd runner-up is Maydel Faburada, 21 years old of barangay Camanjac and a 4th year student of Negros Oriental State University; and 4th runner-up is Nastassja Marie Amigo, 18 years old, of Poblacion VI, and a senior high school student of Silliman University.

The Darling of the Press is Vanessa Ganser, Miss Professionalism is Girlie Mae Princess Montero, and the one with the highest number of text votes went to Elisse Dolleton.

The candidates answered a common question on which traditional Filipino value has been neglected by millennials, and if the practice should be continued.

Dela Cerna’s response got the highest marks from the board of judges, chaired by 2010 Miss Universe 4th runner-up Venus Raj.

Dela Cerna said the values neglected by the millennials is the love of family. She said many of them are too focused on technology, career, and their own selves, and have forgotten their roots.

“We should never forget our respective families because we won’t be here without them. We should cherish and love them forever, they are God’s greatest gifts to us,” she said.

In an interview, Dela Cerna said she did not expect to win the crown, but only did her best. She said she was grateful to her mother who came home from Abu Dhabi to witness the coronation night. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
