The School of Industrial Engineering and Technology held its SIET Week last July 20-25 with the theme “Creating innovative Minds: Breaking Boundaries.”

Kickstarting the weeklong affair is a symposium on “National Greening Program” co-sponsored by the College of Agriculture with Mr. Forester Raul Russel as the resource speaker at the James B. Herring. Audio-Visual Room.

By July 22, a Miniature Catapult Making Contest was held to test the ingenuity of each participating team as they create their own catapult design and to test efficiency and time management as they perform their respective tasks at a specified limit. The College of Hospitality Management won followed by the College of Computer Studies and the college of Business Administration in second and third place, respectively.

Testing innovative minds while building the most stable and artistic tower, the Paper Tower Making Contest was won by the College of Nursing. The College of Business Administration placed second while the College of Agriculture won third. It also aims to strengthen the camaraderie of each participating team as they work on their designs.

Participated by Engineering students, the Mangrove Tree Planting at FU’s demo farms in Amlan last July 23rd aims to give an avenue for the students to be pro-active in protecting and strengthening the coastlines.

An Inter-High School Math Quiz Bowl was held last July 24 to promote the Industrial Engineering program. The team of Jomari Ganhinhin and Kynille Denisse Zerna of RTPM-Dumaguete Science High School emerged as the Champions with their coach Mrs. Joan Dolino. Dumaguete City High School won Second Place and Saceda Youth Lead clinched the third place.

Giving an opportunity for Engineering students to showcase their talents, the SIE Fun Day and Got Talent was held at the Yellow Court of the Greyhound Garden. It also aims to strengthen their relationship as a college, creating well-rounded students excelling both in academics and extra-curricular activities. (Febby Marton Rule)
