The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office has extended the duration of its enhanced police operations from three days to one week, an official said Tuesday.

Lt. Stephen Polinar, NOrPPO spokesperson, told the media the recent province-wide Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) was held from June 9 to 15.

This is based on a recent directive from the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region following its creation, he said.

“This is the first time that we conducted the SACLEO for one week, compared to the usual three days set by the PRO-7 when Negros Oriental was still part of the Central Visayas region,” he added.

Polinar said this is also part of the Philippine National Police’s Unit Performance Evaluation Rating which measures and assesses a police unit’s monthly performance.

During the recent SACLEO, police in Negros Oriental seized some P600,000 suspected shabu and arrested 21 drug personalities in 21 anti-illegal drug operations across the province.

Some 15 grams of suspected marijuana were also confiscated.

Other accomplishments included 27 operations on illegal gambling with 50 persons arrested; 49 operations on wanted persons with two most wanted persons and 49 other wanted persons arrested; 40 operations on loose firearms with a total of 40 confiscated/surrendered loose firearms; and four Oplan Katok operations with a total of four deposited firearms for safekeeping pending license renewal.

Also, 1,015 persons were apprehended for violations of various ordinances.

Polinar said the “low” turnout in the anti-illegal drug operations was due to the sudden announcement of the SACLEO of the regional police office.

The intensified police operations were timely for the Brigada Eskwela, the Independence Day celebration, and the opening of classes on Monday, he added. (Judy F. Partlow)
