Enojo bares plot to link him to killing of Atty. Moncada

Former Provincial Administrator Atty. Richard Enojo has exposed a plot to pin him for the shooting of lawyer Ray Moncada.

Enojo announced the plot in a press conference Thursday in a hotel in Dumaguete.

Enojo said he and Atty. Moncada were lawyers for several groups under one client. After winning their case, Enojo said he and his group of clients had settled their claims but added that Moncada and his group were unable to agree.

Moncada was shot in the morning of Jan. 3 by still unknown individuals. He died 10 days later in the hospital after a surgery.

On his deathbed, Moncada also scribbled a note that referred to that case as the reason for his shooting.

Enojo said he was informed by his clients that an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation went to their homes, took their photographs, and told them to report to the NBI office.

He said he then received a call from a source in Cebu that someone had applied for a search warrant against him. He inquired from the NBI Regional Director and the Provincial Police Chief, who denied knowledge of such search warrant.

Believing that his house would soon be searched, and be “planted” with evidence against him, Enojo asked barangay officials to search his four houses for firearms or other prohibited substances.

The search took the whole day of Saturday, as witnessed by Special Investigator Jesus Cañete of the Commission on Human Rights.

Enojo said he believes that all these is happening in a bid by some political forces to get him to stop defending Gov. Roel Degamo from the cases the Governor is facing. He said without his help, Degamo may have lost his cases long ago.

The Supreme Court recently ruled to invalidate the Court of Appeals’ January 2018 Temporary Restraining Order and subsequent Writ of Preliminary Injunction, and directed the Court of Appeals to decide the case on its merits.

But Enojo said the Supreme Court decision was moot and academic because the Court of Appeals had already decided on this case in 2018. (ARVP)
