The City Environment & Natural Resources Office have moved to its new location near the City Dumpsite at barangay Candau-ay, around six kilometers from City Hall.
Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria led the ribbon cutting in their new location, with City Administrator William Ablong and ENRO Officer Rey Awayan.
In a short program, Mayor Sagarbarria said that one of his priorities for the last 18 months of his administration as City Mayor would be how to solve the problem of solid wastes that could congest further the dumpsite.
He assured the residents he would maintain the cleanliness of the City, and retain its reputation as a beautiful place to live in.
“But I cannot do it without your assistance and the cooperation of the people of Dumaguete,” Mayor Sagarbarria said.
After inaugurating the new building, the Mayor ordered for additional bulldozers to fast-track the decongestion of garbage at the dumpsite, and preparing the area for thermolysis composting with bio-enzyme.
Thermolysis composting is a process exploiting the natural heating of garbage while in a heap or pile. The bio-enzyme assists the fast decomposition of bio-degradable organic materials, and eliminating foul odor. .
City ENRO Chief Rey Awayan, in turn, also ordered the barangays to construct their respective Material Recovery Facilities, as mandated in RA 9003, to minimize the pile up of garbage in the City dumpsite.
He also met the scavengers for the establishment of a new dumpsite management. He asked the assistance of the Scavenger’s Cooperative to help keep the dumpsite presentable, and not to scatter the garbage especially plastics. (PIO with reports from Arestio Encabo)
