Three detainees who bolted out of the Philippine National Police station jail in Basay, Negros Oriental, are now the subject of a manhunt.
They were identified as Reckie Rota Pilapil, Antonio Abrasaldo Mejia, detained for alleged illegal drugs violation, and Rechie Tibudan, for alleged statutory rape.
Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel Jr., OIC director of the Negros Oriental PNP, said the three managed to escape by sawing off the iron grills of their cell.
Investigation showed that Police Officer 2 Mark Anthony Apsay discovered the escape but Natuel said the Basay police only learned of it between 4 and 5 a.m. Monday.
All police stations were alerted immediately, he added.
The Basay police force, headed by Insp. Elpidio Taguan, will be subjected to investigation for possible lapses or negligence of duty that enabled the jailbreak.
Natuel assured the public they are doing their best to capture the escapees, who, he said, are “not armed and dangerous”.
Pictures of the escaped detainees are being circulated to alert the police and the public, he added. (PNA)
