State-of-the-art men’s comfort room was inaugurated June 28 at the Dumaguete City Public Market. The is the first of its kind among public markets in the entire country that is equivalent to that of any five-star hotel.
The inauguration of the waterless comfort room was led by Mayor Chiquiting Sagarbarria, City Administrator William E. Ablong, City Treasurer Cristina Merced, and City Economic Enterprise Officer Jose Ronnie Fortin. Fr. Roland Omatang did the blessing rites, and department heads graced the occasion.
Mayor Sagarbarria, in his speech, said the comfort room is his gift to all Dumagueteños. “Let us keep it clean and maintain it so it will last by buying a token costing only P2.00 per use.”
The ladies room is still under construction.
Soon-to-be users of the comfort room extended their support and displayed joy and gratitude for the project because it is odorless and environment-friendly.
On the same day, Assistant Ombudsman for Visayas Virginia Palanca Santiago came to Dumaguete City and conducted a forum on Public Accountability.
The forum was initiated by ABC President Albert Aquino and approved by the City Council and Chief Exective Mayor Sagarbarria. It was during this forum that elected government officials, including barangay captains, realized that somewhere in their exercise of duties and responsibilities, may have had some lapses and violations on matters relevant to public accountability.
Learning that offices occupied by elected officials is a public trust, all government officials are held liable and accountable to people whom they serve.
Mayor Sagarbarria said he is hopeful that the forum would change leadership perspective for the local government unit of Dumaguete to better serve our people in a progressive City such as ours.
Meanwhile, the distribution of Philhealth cards among identified indigents by the City Social Welfare & Development Office is in progress.
More than 5,000 of Philhealth cardholders will enjoy the healthcare protection because of Mayor Sagabarria’s innate concern for the general welfare of his constituents.
At the same time, a team of street sweepers continue their rounds of the Clean-Up Drive in the entire City five days a week to keep our city the cleanest.
Here’s hoping that through this initiative by the Chief Executive, everyone will take responsibility in cleaning their own surroundings.
