Dauin Brgy Capt. murder
A former policeman and three accomplices, all suspected guns-for-hire, were arrested Wednesday by policemen in Vallehermoso town, following the broad-daylight murder of the Bacacay, Dauin Barangay Capt. Stephen Alam earlier that morning.
Capt. Louie Batuto, chief of police of Dauin, identified the suspects as Jhal Salapuddin, 35, a dismissed policeman from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; Riche Mahusay, 39, of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur; MC Venzir Teleron, of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Samuel Quiñanola, 45, of Surabay, Zamboanga Sibugay, who sustained gunshot wounds on his left arm and left leg.
Quiñanola and one other suspect went inside the barangay hall of Bagacay after 9 in the morning of Wednesday, and shot the barangay captain in cold blood.
A barangay official who witnessed the shooting grappled with Quiñanola after the shooting, resulting in the wounding of Quiñanola from his own firearm.
Quiñanola and his accomplice escaped the scene by riding a blue Mitsubishi Adventure, where two other suspects were waiting. It was later learned that the getaway vehicle was rented from a Dumaguete car rental company.
The suspects fled north, where police had set up roadblocks, and caught them in the northernmost town of Vallehermoso by 1:24 in the afternoon.
The presence of the wounded suspect inside the vehicle bolstered the suspicion of the police that they got the right suspects.
Bayawan City Mayor Pryde Henry Teves offered a P100,000 reward for the capture of the suspects, saying barangay captain Alam was their trusted ally in Dauin.
In a radio interview, Mayor Teves said that the leader of the gang was a former policeman, and that all four suspects are from Zamboanga peninsula.
He also noted that Dauin Mayor Galicano Truita is also a former policeman who was once assigned in the Zamboanga area.
“[Dauin]Mayor Truita can help solve this case,”Bayawan Mayor Teves said.
