Fiesta activities lined up

To mark its 65th Charter Anniversary, the City government of Dumaguete led by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has lined up several activities from Nov. 16 to 25, according to City Tourism Officer Woodrow Maquing Jr, in-charge of the 10-day activities.

The theme for this year celebration: Embracing the global culture, enriching local tradition.

Maquiling said the festivities will kick off Saturday, Nov. 16 with a Sandurot Fun Run at 5 am, with the participants coming from City Hall. It will be followed by Zumba & Healthy Dancing at 7:30 am; 7:45am-Interfaith Ecumenical Service; 8:30 am-Painitan sa Parke; 9am-opening of the 10-day Sandurot Trade Fair; 9:30 am-opening of the three-day Sandurot Inter- barangay livelihood. The venue for such activities will be at Quezon Park.

By 6pm of Nov. 16 is the opening of the 10-day Sandurot Garden Show at Rizal Boulevard; at 8pm will be the presentation and talent night of Miss Dumaguete 2013 at Quezon Park Kiwanis Stage.

On Sunday, Nov. 17 at 6am- Sandurot Birik-Birik Fishing Festival; 8am-Sandurot Frisbee Competition and Sandurot Sports Day Clinic; 9am-Social Welfare Day; 1pm- Sandurot Dog Show at Robinsons Mall; 6pm- Sky Night: Pop Dance Competition, and 9pm- SMB live band.

Monday, Nov. 18: Sandurot Singing Idol Competition at 7pm, and SMB live band at 9pm to be held at Quezon Park.

Tuesday, Nov. 19-5pm Sandurot Regional Dance Sport Competition. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7pm-Sandurot Inter-School Folkdance Competition. Thursday, Nov. 21-5pm-Earth Day Jam featuring national music celebrities; 7pm- Atong Kabilin-Harana Sing and Dance Contest at Quezon Park.

Other highlights: Nov. 22-8pm Miss Dumaguete Pageant Night at Negros Oriental Convention Center

Nov. 23-6am Sandurot Dualthlon; 4pm Sandurot Street Dancing; 6pm- Sandurot Showdown Competition.

Nov. 24-8am Charter Day Thanksgiving Mass; 9am-Sandurot Grand Halad Pasalamat: Medical Mission and Health & Wellness Day; 3pm Charter Day Celebration with a Grand City-wide parade.

The celebration will end with the Sandurot Motorized Banca Race; at 8am-Fiesta Day Thanksgiving with a mass at Cathedral Church; and 5pm—awarding of the Outstanding Dumaguetnon Awards on Nov. 25.
