Traffic at the center of Dumaguete City rolled to a stop briefly Friday with disaster scenarios at a few business establishments in line with the city’s observance of Fire Prevention Month this March.
The scenarios included a fire drill and an earthquake drill, and simulations of ground rescue, high-building evacuation through rappelling and with the use of ladders and first aid application.
The downtown scenarios also saw the participation of employees of business establishments, aided by firemen and rescuers, in putting out flames from empty oil drums with the use of fire extinguishers.
Firefighters also rolled out their hoses to simulate the putting out of a blaze.
Elsewhere in the scene, the “injured” were evacuated on stretchers or assisted by rescue volunteers and transferred to safe places where they were given first aid treatment.
The disaster drills were jointly carried out by the Bureau of Fire Protection-City Fire Department and the City Disaster Risk Reduction &Management Office, with the city’s rescue teams also participating.
On Thursday, fire and earthquake scenarios were also held at the City Hall for a simulation of smooth egress of employees and citizens transacting business with the city government during disasters.
