Five videos — two from Negros Oriental and three from Negros Occidental — have made it to the finals of the Energy Development Corporation or EDC’s Geothermal May Forever video contest to promote clean and renewable energy.
The names of the finalists are withheld as online voting begins from Oct. 9 to Oct. 19 via the Positive Energy Negros Facebook page, said Maria Esther Espina, EDC communications consultant, on Tuesday.
Espina revealed that the awarding of the winners in this first-ever video contest of EDC to promote geothermal energy will be held on Oct. 20, 2017 at the Luce Auditorium in Silliman University, Dumaguete City.
The video contest aims to answer the catch phrase, popularized especially on social media, “may forever ba?” (is there a forever) that geothermal energy, indeed, has a “forever”, because it operates 24/7 uninterrupted, rain or shine, at any day and time all year round, she said.
The five videos that have made it to the finals are vying for the categories of best picture, best screenplay, best actor, best actor, and people’s choice award for those who get the highest votes online.
Those that made it to the finals are: Geo TV (a documentary-type video on the benefits of geothermal energy); Pero Nag-effort (a geo engineering student rushed to her class only to find out that there wasn’t any because it was raining); Power (a girl finds love that is forever); Thesis Pa More (a college student who is working on her thesis breaks down after her boyfriend broke up with her); and Travel Goals (a guy who was heartbroken goes on a journey to find himself again and meets an adventurous girl who was on her journey to follow her dreams), Espina said.
The grand prize winner for best picture will receive P20,000.00. The winner for 2nd best picture gets P10,000 while the 3rd best picture will win P5,000. The best screenplay will get P10,000 while the best actor, best actress, and people’s choice award will each get P5,000.
Meanwhile, the awards night will be patterned after the famous Oscars Award, said Espina, with guests to include 2017 Senior Grand Champion Vocalist and Performer of the World, Cristiani Rebada; National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) finalists, Silliman University Campus Choristers; Rhythm Dance Artists featuring various dance groups and the grand prize winner of the World Cultural Dance Festival in Jeonju, South Korea, the Kahayag Dance Company; and the “Saan Nga Ba May Forever?” Radyo Teleserye cast.
The awards night will also feature special guest, Star Magic artist Robi Domingo. (Metro Post/Judy Flores Partlow/PNA)
