The next honorary Dumaguetnon?
Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos, who once served as the Chief of Police of Dumaguete City and the Provincial Director of the Negros Oriental PNP Command, is now the 27th Chief of the Philippine National Police.
General Carlos, an alumnus of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988, assumed his new post Friday upon the retirement of PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar.
He served as Dumaguete PNP chief from 2006 to 2008, and later became Negros Oriental PNP Provincial Director in 2015.
Carlos served in various capacities, to include being PNP director for Integrated Police Operations in the Visayas. He was fourth in the PNP hierarchy when he was named by President Duterte to succeed General Eleazar.
In his acceptance speech last Friday, Carlos bared a four-point immediate action program that he will implement as Chief of the PNP: to Ensure peaceful and orderly 2022 elections; to Continue PNP programs on Anti-Criminality, Anti-Illegal Drugs, and Anti-Corruption; Develop and empower the Area Police Commands; and to continue the policies, programs and projects of previous Chiefs of the PNP.
While Carlos was born and raised in Lucena City, he has established roots in Dumaguete after he married Bebeth Luague Cruz, of the Antonio-Luague families of Dumaguete.
He has built his retirement home in Metro Dumaguete.
Asked if he considers himself a Dumagueteño, General Carlos told the MetroPost that if the City of Dumaguete will consider him to be one, he would be “honored to be one proud son of the City of Gentle People.”
