The president of Foundation University said Thursday the school is now deviating to technology as a method of teaching for its practical use for both learners and mentors.
“We have gotten away from strictly traditional theoretical teaching, and we are more into practical teaching,” said Architect Victor Vicente “Dean” Sinco during the opening of the 17th University Expo: Digital Dumaguete 2025. “That is why this whole event is digital so that you can see how each department or discipline applies technology as a tool,” he added.
Sinco said that through digital technology, the comprehension of students is improved because “they can review as often as they play.”
Instructors can also find ways to do things differently through technology, he said.
Sinco added that people are visual learners, and the direction to take now is through online lectures and similar digital pathways.
Meanwhile, Sinco said he is apprehensive about the return of the start of the school year in June, instead of August.
“I am not in favor of going back to June because when we moved schedules to August, we were given the opportunity to participate with other schools internationally because we followed their schedules [abroad],” he said.
With the start of classes in June, this interaction with international schools will not work because of the overlapping academic schedules, Sinco added.
He suggested that schools build comfortable classrooms to address the clamor of parents that their children suffer from the heat while attending school during the dry season, if school were to begin in August. (Judy F. Partlow/PNA)
