Philippine National Police (PNP) provincial director Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza has reiterated the government’s one-strike policy against poor police performance as he relieved four police chiefs in Negros Oriental for their failure to deliver to curb illegal gambling and illegal drugs in their respective areas of assignment.
Relieved this week were Chief Insp. Domeneciano Distrito, Jr., police chief of Tanjay City, and Insp. Rolando Asidoy, police chief of Sta. Catalina town. Two other police officers were scheduled for relief but their names were not immediately known.
According to Carranza, all police chiefs were already informed about the one-strike policy adopted by the PNP. He said the order was not a joke and he was serious in its implementation, especially on the failure to address the problem on illegal gambling specifically, on the illegal version of the numbers game “swertres” and illegal drugs.
Distrito’s relief order was issued on Wednesday after he failed to address the illegal gambling problem in Tanjay City, said Carranza. Temporarily sitting as Tanjay police chief is Insp. Arthur dela Rosa.
Meanwhile, Sr. Supt. Carranza said he also ordered the relief of Insp. Asidoy for his failure to prosecute a drug case in Sta. Catalina.
Sr. Insp. Rogelio Pacificar has been assigned as acting police chief of Sta. Catalina vice Asidoy until a permanent replacement has been named.
Carranza warned he will not hesitate to remove other police chiefs from their current assignments if they performed poorly in their respective areas. (PNA)
