The Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative is granting free electricity to its 34,323 lifeline consumers.
This is in support of the government’s “Pantawid Liwanag” program to subsidize the electricity consumption of lifeline customers for March billing.
According to NORECO II Information Officer Sharon Araula, lifeline residential consumers or those who consume 20 KWh or less will not be paying electricity charges in March only.
As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility, Araula said due to the CoViD-19 crisis and with the province now under enhanced community quarantine, the cooperative is implementing the program to lessen the burden of the lifeline consumers.
NORECO II has allocated P2.7 million for the said subsidy for the lifeline consumers under its coverage area.
However, for consumers covered by the subsidy who have already paid the March billing, they will be considered as advance payment for the month of April.
Araula said the implementation of the ‘Pantawid Liwanag’ is in cooperation with the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. , National Association of General Managers of Electric Cooperatives and One EC-MCO Movement. (jct/PIA7 NegOr)
