The City Local Civil Registrar confirmed that the applicable fees required to obtain the marriage license will be waived to interested couples who will join this year’s Kasalang Bayan 2020 to be officiated by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.

Local Civil Registrar Carlo Cual said that to join the mass wedding, interested couples, including foreigners and non-Dumaguete residents, can submit their legal documents by Feb. 10.

Among the documents required for live-in couples are: birth certificates; certificate of marital status (no-marriage) from the Philippine Statistics Authority; affidavit of cohabitation from the Public Attorney’s Office, and the marriage certificate from the Local Civil Registrar’s office.

The documents for non-cohabiting parties are: birth certificates; parental advice for couples 21-24 years old; parental consent for couples 18-20 years old; valid identification cards; attendance in a pre-marriage and family planning seminar at the Population Commission; and the marriage license from the Local Civil Registrar’s office.

For marriages with foreigners, the requirements are: valid identification card of the contracting parties; certificate of legal capacity from the embassy of the person’s country of origin; if widowed, death certificate of the spouse; if divorced, original copy of the divorce decree; a certificate of no-marriage; the couple’s attendance in a pre-marriage and family planning seminar at the Population Commission, and the marriage license from the Local Civil Registrar’s office.

After all required documents are submitted to the Civil Registrar’s office, the principal wedding sponsors (ninongs and ninangs) will be asked to officially sign the marriage licenses before Feb. 14.

The 30 barangay captains of the City have been requested to endorse the applications of the Kasalang Bayan, and to help register the interested couples in the event, as a means to legitimize their unions. (PIO)
