Foundation University celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education last May 19-23, capping the week with various activities on the theme Access, Capacity, Excellence: Higher Education for National Development & Global Competitiveness.
According to Marlon Tanilon, dean of the Office of Student Life, among the activities conducted in consonance with CHED’s 20th were the forum on ASEAN 2015, Kasikas sa Talento ug Kaanyag: A Showcase of Visayan Culture, Songs & Dances, a cultural presentation, and an English as a Second Language Training for the FU Faculty and Staff.
The ASEAN 2015, for instance, “is a very important issue that needs to be discussed in schools because it also affects the education sector,” Tanilon said.
Conducting the ASEAN 2015 lecture was Dr. Charlotte Carino, dean of the College of Business Administration.
Established on May 18, 1994, CHED is a governing body in the education sector that covers both public and private higher education institutions as well as degree-granting programs in all post-secondary educational institutions in the country.
“Everyone has to realize the strategic role that CHED plays,” said Tanilon, emphasizing its role in poverty alleviation and global competitiveness. (Paul Bajas)
