Foundation University celebrated its 66th Founding Anniversary with an array of activities from the 1st of July until the Grand Alumni Homecomingon July 4th with the theme FU at 66: Come and See What Clicks.

Academic opening

Freshmen students were welcomed to University life by way of the Annual Academic Opening, July 1.

New to this year, valedictorians and honor students from their respective High Schools were seated on stage together with freshmen athletes and Board passers.

Prof. Elisabeth Golden from the University of Washington’s Department of Architecture gave a message, delivered by Ray Villanueva, co-director of the Bamboo Workshop.

Carlo Orgada of the School of Industrial Engineering & Technology gave a message to fellow freshmen students on the values of hardwork, and what it meant to have the chance of being admitted in a University.

It ended with a massive dance production by the Buglasayaw Dance Troupe.

Later that night was the Staff Opening Dinner wherein the newest addition of the Foundationite community of faculty and staff were formally introduced by University Chancellor, Dr. Eva Melon.

President Victor Vicente “Dean” Sinco gave a message to everyone of what this year will be for the University.

Estudio Damgo 3 launching

The much-awaited launch of Estudio Damgo 3, the first student led design & build architecture program in the Philippines, was on July 2 at 2 pm at Escano Beach in barangay Bantayan.

Estudio Damgo 3 was conceptualized by the FU Department of Architecture students under the chairmanship of Architect Dean Sinco.

The initial products of the program two years ago were implemented by Architect Ray Villanueva.

This time, the triangular floating marine sanctuary made out of bamboo, was designed to protect marine life, at the same time, to provide shelter for the Bantay Dagat.

Project cost was pegged at P1.6 million, partly- funded by sponsors. This is the first of its kind in the Philippines.

Attended by local government officials, the launch was held in honor of those who made the damgo possible.

Messages were given by City Vice-Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr., Project Consultant Paul Marin, Project Manager Zorich Guia, and the nine Architecture students who spearheaded the project.

It was then followed with the turnover of five radio handsets to the National Telecommunications Commission.

Dal-Uy

The Annual Festival of Hope called Dal-Uy was participated by the entire FU community who participated in a dusk walk from the Rizal Boulevard to Escano Beach.

Freshmen students lined up to experience the sight of the Estudio Damgo 3 structure.

Everyone was ecstatic seeing the pyramid, and was excited to float his or her individual desires for the year, written on a lantern. By 6 pm, lanterns were afloat bearing messages and wishes of hope and posterity.

A grand fireworks display followed with everyone dancing to the tune of pop music.

Clash of Colors

Led by the Student Government, an all University acquaintance party was held with the theme Clash of Colors: Welcome to Highway 1. Everyone was on their feet as an in-house DJ mixed music at its best.

Color powders were thrown with splashes of water to all attendees. A first in the university, the Clash was meant to celebrate a good year ahead for the Foundationites.

Celebratory mass, Community fellowship

A celebratory mass was held to honor the 66th Founding Anniversary as deemed in line with the vision of FU founder, Dr. Vicente G. Sinco.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Alar asked everyone what it meant to really click. “Ask the question and dwell with its quest of knowing what it means and where it will lead us,” he said.

A fellowship immediately followed at the Green, gathering the whole FU Community.

Larong Pinoy and Friendship Games

College representatives played all time favorites of Pinoy classical games like sack race and egg-catching.

The University High School won in the sack race followed by the College of Business Administration.

The School of Industrial Engineering & Technology tied with the College of Business for the egg-catching relay.

A friendly match between students and faculty/staff took place at the North Campus gymnasium where they played basketball, badminton, and volleyball. (Febby Marton Rule)
