An OpenStreet Map Seminar was held last August 22 at the CISCO Laboratory of the College of Computer Studies.
Participated by the Computer Studies faculties, Entheos IT and IT Operations Staff of FU, the seminar aims to educate how the Openstreet Map system works. This was done by Mr. Erwin Olario of OSM Philippines.
Some of the objectives were to have a working understanding of GPS/SmartPhones and their use in field data collection; Using data from the OSM database in various formats beneficial to the participants; How to use the iD OSM editor, and understanding how points, lines, and areas can represent things on a map; and understanding the role of OSM during crisis mapping.
From their website www.osm.org, OpenStreetMap is a worldwide project that aims to create and share geospatial information to anyone. The project was started because most maps have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways. (Febby Marton Rule)
