Foundation University is this year’s host of the National Volleyball Congress, with the theme Get Involved… Keep the Ball Flying.

Attended by 115 coaches and referees, the largest in attendance since its inception, the Congress is the brainchild of sports guru Roger Bansuela, who is now assistant director of the FU Institute of Youth Sports for Peace.

The coaches and referees from around the country participating in the congress this weekend are accredited with the Philippine Volleyball Federation, or are actively officiating in competitions the last two years.

The Congress is being held in partnership with the Negros Oriental Referees Volleyball Association and the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association.

Bansuela noted the need to professionalize the field of volleyball coaching and officiating, one of the topics that will be discussed in the congress.

Meanwhile, Dr. Aparicio Mequi, IYSP director, said organizing the congress helps “fulfill the fundamental reason for the founding of IYSP: a center for the education and professionalization of sports teachers, coaches, technical personnel, and other sports practitioners”.

“My dream is to see IYSPeace as a virtual center for sports education with a comprehensive Sports Information Resource Center serving the Negros Island Region and the whole country, and having the Negros Athletic Association as the Region’s premier sports league,” Mequi added (Febby Marton Rule)
