Foundation University, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), will again be hosting the Lutas Film Festival Nov. 19-21 on FU’s main campus.
This will be the second annual Lutas festival, which is a 3-day event that highlights short films with a focus on Filipino culture and will showcase entries from filmmakers throughout Negros Oriental.
The theme of the festival is one reason it fits so well into a partnership with the NCCA, which continues to be an instrument for promoting the preservation of the Filipino identity by sponsoring cultural and art projects that focus on exploring and reinforcing Filipinos’ connection to their ancestral culture.
The short films featured in Lutas are meant to be a reminder to the people of Negros to appreciate and value their own culture and also to preserve it, especially now that modernization is quickly pushing the country forward, often times overshadowing and obscuring our past.
The film festival is open to all aspiring filmmakers and storytellers who share their vision and voice through film. Participants must come from Negros and short films must be in the Visayan dialect.
The event will also include free workshops and lectures by leaders in the Filipino film industry; the lecturer’s names will be released soon, Lutas organizers said.
Lutas organizers also said that, aside from winning cash prizes, the festival was a great opportunity for young filmmakers to gain exposure and make contacts within the local and national film industry.
The deadline of submission will be on November 3, 2015 and participants can visit Lutas Film Festival Facebook Page for more information about the festival or contact FoundationU at 422-9167 local 126. (Juliet Cuizon)
