Foundation University is offering a comprehensive short course for business professionals with pre-existing knowledge of technologies involved in designing, implementing, and operating Ethernet-based Internet protocol networks.

The University is partnering with MikroTik Company based in Latvia that can provide budget hardware that suits the customer requirements with high-end technology and persistent quality products.

According to Mikro Tik officials, their company is partnering with Foundation University for their highly-skilled MikroTik-certified trainers with more then a decade of practical exposure in various key infrastructure organizations; their practical exposure on MikroTik products based live í¬nfrastructure (MPLS based) at the Foundation University Laboratory; a key focus on hands-on learning where 70 percent of the overall course time will be completely practical working with highly-complex Lab exercises; special cost-efficient training packages designed for working professionals including the training and certification cost; and the MikroTik Certified Network Associate, which is an international level certification that enhances the networking career of working professionals entering the world of routing.

Advantages: 1) Usually no use-case for rack-mountable Cisco hardware at home due to high cost involved; 2) MikroTik routers can be used anywhere, are fairly cheap, and everlasting; 3) RouterOS is Linux based and it’s similar to configuring a plain Linux router; 4) those who have tried configuring a linux router/firewall will find it easy to get into RouterOS; 5) even though all software products of MikroTik are proprietary, MikroTik promotes the use of open source utilities which, besides the Linux kernel, are built-in into the core of RouterOS.

The price-performance/feature ratio of MikroTik products is unbeaten targeting mid to large size businesses (5000+ routers) ranging from 10 to 10,000 employees. It is also the cheapest MPLS routers available on the market. Their entry devices are available for as low as $30 (~P1200) with flexible licensing model which allows for easy upgrades. MikroTik RouterOS as the operating system can also be installed on regular PC hardware and is fully compatible with other vendors (eg. Cisco) while implementing in a backbone networking.
