The College of Computer Studies of Foundation University will soon give its students the same quality of education required of Information Technology (IT) schools in Japan.
Starting second semester, CCS students and faculty will be using the Philippine National IT Standards Foundation Inc. (PhilNITS) program, formerly known as the Japanese IT Standards Examination of the Philippines Foundation Inc. (JITSE Phil.).
CCS Dean DaeHabalo said this is part of FU’s ongoing efforts to strive for higher standards in education and raise the bar of excellence.
Integrating Philnits into the CCS curriculum would involve the gathering of baseline data for students and faculty, through a pilot Philnits test given last October 23.
Habalosaid the purpose of the exam was to ensure that instructors are well knowledgeable on the subjects they teach and are equipped to help students pass the certification.
“IT has no board exam but this will serve as one” she said.
This will surely be an improvement over the present IT curriculum based on CHED standards, Habalo said, adding that the CHED has accepted and encouraged the PhilNITS certification exam. “We wish to improve the questioning skills of the faculty and greater depth on the subject being taught means better questioning skills,” Habalo said.
She said the style and type of questioning from previous certification exams will also help the instructors improve their skill. “This will give added qualifications for IT instructors and this is certainly a plus for FU CCS instructors for their career.” (Joel Llanos)
